Biography

Tashawn Davis, known artistically as Whaffle, is a multidisciplinary creative whose work seamlessly blends art, fashion, and cultural history. Born and raised in Red Hook, Brooklyn, Whaffle’s artistic journey began at the age of five, drawing on any surface he could find. By second grade, his passion took shape through art lessons in Coffey Park, which later evolved into the Red Hook Art Project.

Guided by RHAP, Whaffle built an impressive portfolio that earned him a spot in the art program at Edward R. Murrow High School. There, he gained recognition, amassing Gold Keys, Silver Keys, and Honorable Mentions in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, marking him as a standout artist at both regional and national levels.

Although he briefly studied illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology, Whaffle felt drawn to a creative path beyond the classroom. At just 17, he made the bold decision to leave school/home and move to Los Angeles, where he immersed himself in the art world—modeling, collaborating with brands, and making appearances in films and music videos.

Deeply inspired by African American history, culture, and fashion, Whaffle found a profound connection to the 1970s, an era where style and politics converged. What began as artistic admiration soon became a lifestyle—his wardrobe, creative work, and even his apartment reflect a fully realized 1970s aesthetic, transforming his space into a living time capsule.

In 2019, Whaffle returned to New York, undeterred by past challenges, and carved out a multifaceted career spanning creative direction, set design, and modeling. His talent and vision have led him to collaborate with major brands including Fila, Pro-Keds, Apple, New Balance, Coca-Cola, Kangol, and Butter’d Bodycare. That same year, he hosted his first solo show in his hometown of Red Hook, Brooklyn, marking a full-circle moment in his artistic journey.

Through his work, Whaffle continues to champion authenticity, resilience, and storytelling, using his art to bridge past and present while inspiring future generations.

He currently lives and works in New York City.
